While pregnant with my son in 2025, I wanted to start on a personal project and I had two goals in mind: to create something functional (not only functional but also joyful and whimsical), and to experiment with AI. The idea sparked for catculator, and that was the catalyst. (Yes, I may continue to go overboard on the puns but hey, there are way too many good cat-related ones and Iām a parent now so cheesy jokes are expected.)
I built the Figma file, created the cat-shape numbers and cute, sleepy cats and started to experiment with AI tools. I shelved it for a few months until late May 2026 when I started hearing about some recent advancements to designing and coding with AI tools. I signed up for Claude for a month to try out coding with Claude Design and after a few weeks of extra sleep deprivation, I submitted my app to the Apple App Store.
How do I turn the meow sounds off?
Tap the speaker icon in the top-right of the calculator, or open 'Settings' (the gear icon, top-left) and toggle sound off. Your choice is remembered next time you open the app.
What does the dice button do?
The dice (bottom row) is the randomiser. Tap it to instantly shuffle the background and the cat shown above your sum. Tap again any time for another combination.
How do I switch between many cats and one cat?
Open Settings and choose 'Many' (every number key is a cat) or 'Just one' (a single cat sits above the display while you use number keys). You can switch back any time.
Why is my answer different from what I expected?
Catculator follows the standard order of operations: multiplication and division are calculated before addition and subtraction, and the full result is shown when you press =. For example, 1 + 2 Ć 3 = 7. Use the undo button (top row) to step back one entry at a time.

Does Catculator collect any of my data?
No. Catculator collects, stores, and shares nothing. Everything happens on your device. You can read the full Purr-rivacy Policy in the app for details.
Do my settings and calculations sync between devices?
No because nothing leaves your device, your settings live only on the device you set them on. There are no accounts to sign in to.
